Our abrasive wheel train the trainer open course takes place over a full day at our training venues in North Yorkshire and South London. It is aimed at individuals who wish to train their own staff in the safe use of abrasive wheels.

COVID Secure training:

  • Only a maximum of 4 trainees per training course.
  • All surfaces & equipment are thoroughly cleaned with antiviral cleaners.
  • Minimal sharing of equipment.
  • Hand sanitiser is provided.
  • Covid secure lunches provided.
  • Attendees will always be expected to practice safe social distancing during the training course.
  • Where social distancing cannot be maintained due to the needs of the job then face coverings (masks) will be used to minimise the risk and will be done for the shortest amount of time possible.

The practical training will include: wheel changes, dressing of the wheels where required and an operator competency assessment.

Train The Trainer Open Course

TTS are a specialist BAF (British Abrasives Federation) accredited abrasive wheel training company who conduct on-site training in the safe use of abrasive wheels for all types of cutting and grinding applications; Petrol Cut Off Saw, Angle Grinder, Chop Saw, Bench/Pedestal Grinder, Surface Grinder, Cylindrical Grinder etc.

Course Content

The first part of the abrasive wheel train the trainer open course is the normal half day BAF accredited abrasive wheel operator course, during which the trainees will be required to take notes, this course is designed and structured to provide training in the safe use of abrasive wheels and meets with the requirements of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98) and covers the following subjects:

  • The Need to Train and Statutory Requirements
  • Characteristics of an Abrasive Wheel and the Types
  • Marking of Abrasive Wheels
  • Speed
  • Hazards and Precautions to be taken
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Storage & Handling
  • Inspection and Methods of Testing for Damage
  • Abrasive Wheel Machine Components
  • Guarding
  • Dressing & Balancing
  • Specific Mounting Procedures

The second part of the course will involve breaking down the lesson plan, record keeping, practical demonstrations, theory & practical tests.

Course Requirements

Our open course is a full day course conducted at one of our training centres on the outskirts of Knaresborough (N. Yorks) or Morden, Surrey (S. London).

We train a maximum of 4 trainees per course and you can buy 1 or up to a maximum of 4 places per course (subject to availability).

Our 1 day course is for experienced trainers/instructors or those who are confident enough to conduct a training course.

Anyone attending this course is expected to have prior knowledge/experience of abrasive wheels.

You will receive a certificate of attendance on completion of the course (which is emailed in a PDF format), as well as an individual training record (to provide proof of training) and a comprehensive set of course notes for each trainee.
