Which Face Fit Train the Tester Course Do I Need?
We offer both Qualitative and Quantitative Face Fit Train the Tester courses. The right course depends primarily on the type of RPE you need to test and the testing equipment you intend to use.
Qualitative Face Fit Train the Tester
Best suited to organisations testing disposable and reusable half masks.
Qualitative face fit testing uses a taste-based method, such as Bitrex or saccharin, to determine whether an adequate seal has been achieved.
It can be used for:
- Disposable filtering facepieces
- Reusable half masks
Qualitative face fit test kits cost approximately £175 + VAT, making this the most accessible method for many organisations carrying out their own face fit testing.

Quantitative Face Fit Train the Tester
For organisations requiring quantitative testing using an Ambient Particle Counting (APC) machine.
Quantitative testing provides a numerical fit factor and can be used with a wider range of RPE, including:
- Disposable masks
- Reusable half masks
- Full-face masks
- SCBA
Ambient Particle Counting equipment costs approximately £7,500 + VAT.
TTS can advise on suitable equipment and can offer discounted equipment packages to delegates attending our training.

Our Training Centres
TTS North – Knaresborough, North Yorkshire
Our northern training centre is located at our head office in the North Yorkshire countryside, just outside Knaresborough, with convenient access from the A1(M) and Knaresborough railway station.
The centre offers:
- Free on-site parking
- Accessible ramp and facilities for disabled visitors
- Dedicated training room
- Plenty of space for practical exercises
Although our training room can accommodate up to 10 people, we deliberately restrict our Face Fit Train the Tester courses to smaller groups.
Qualitative courses: maximum 8 delegates
Quantitative courses: maximum 4 delegates
Keeping numbers small gives each delegate considerably more time for practical training and individual support.
