Abrasive wheel training is a classroom based course designed for the users, operators and managers of abrasive wheel equipment. Delivered on your site/premises as a full day or half day course. In line with the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) legislation anyone who uses, mounts, or supervises staff should be trained in the safe use.
Abrasive Wheel Operator Training is essential to ensure operators have the information and skills necessary to allow the safe use of abrasive wheels. This training is an important part of accident prevention. It helps to protect both the operators and those around them.
What types of abrasive wheel should the training cover?
Our training is not a case of 1 size fits all. We tailor our training to suit your requirements.

Who needs training
The use of abrasive wheel machines is covered under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98), the regulations require that:
“In relation to abrasive wheels, PUWER 98 requires, among other things, that all machinery is suitable for its intended use and is properly maintained, and that employees, including those using, mounting and managing the operation of abrasive wheels, are fully informed and properly trained in their safe use”.

How often should you be trained?
PUWER98 doesn’t state a refresher timescale. Signs that refresher is required include: “When standards are seen to be slipping. You have had a near miss or accident etc.”. The British Abrasives Federation (BAF) recommends participating in a refresher course every 3 years.
Is your abrasive wheel training HSE compliant?
We have a wealth of experience providing abrasive wheels training. We will help ensure you are properly trained in line with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98). The safe use of Abrasive Wheels is covered by the HSE publication HSG17. In line with this guidance there is no substitute for thorough practical training. To ensure your training is compliant, as a minimum, it should cover the 9 points as per the HSE guidance HSG17.
Who accredits Abrasive Wheel Training?
In line with the HSE guidance document the only accreditation programme mentioned is the BAF (British Abrasives Federation). The HSE recommend you contact the BAF in relation to abrasive wheel training. Training and Testing Services deliver more BAF accredited training in the UK and have been delivering this training for over 12 years.
